Myungchul Kim is a Managing Director and Head of Alvarez & Marsal Korea.

With more than 20 years of corporate experience in Asia, his primary areas of concentration are development and implementation of strategic and operational initiatives, post-merger integration, performance improvements, operational turnaround, as well as business plan development and evaluation. Mr. Kim has worked across a range of industries including shipping, construction, heavy industries, infrastructure, manufacturing and transportation.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Kim spent four years with Hyundai Group, a holding company of many affiliates including Hyundai Merchant Marine, Hyundai Securities and Hyundai Elevator as a Managing Director of Group Strategic Planning Office. Mr. Kim worked directly with Hyundai Group’s top management, advising on major strategic directions, and led the reengineering process of the group’s managerial procedures between the group and its affiliates. Mr. Kim was also responsible for developing and managing strategic / operational initiatives of all the major operating companies.

During his tenure at Hyundai Group in 2015, Mr. Kim was the youngest board member of Hyundai Merchant Marine. He led the development of a restructuring plan and launched various company-wide turnaround / restructuring programs, including hands-on negotiations with the owners of chartered ships to cut charter rates and debt restructuring / refinancing. Mr. Kim was also actively involved in leading execution of restructuring plans of the group, including a sellout of Hyundai Securities and Hyundai Logistics.

Prior to Hyundai, Mr. Kim spent nine years with Doosan Group as a Managing Director of the Strategic Planning Office, where he worked directly with the group’s top management in their key business decision-making process. At Doosan, Mr. Kim led various group-wide initiatives, including optimal long-range planning, core competitive technology session and the establishment of the 10-year group aspiration and portfolio direction. As a core executive, Mr. Kim evaluated performances of the group’s key CEOs and their strategies and operations in their respective companies, as well as assessing and planning financial targets and strategic objectives for its major affiliates including Doosan Corporation, Doosan Heavy Industries and Doosan Infracore.

Mr. Kim earned an MBA from Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Hanyang University in Korea.
