Mike Dotson is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Valuation Services in Chicago. He specializes in the valuation of tangible fixed assets.

Mr. Dotson has over 20 years of experience performing valuations and related engagements for private and public clients ranging from small family-owned businesses to large Fortune 500 public companies. He has executed and managed valuation engagements for a variety of purposes, including due diligence, financial reporting, and tax. He has managed engagements for ASC 350, 360, 805, 820, 852, and International Financial Reporting Standards equivalents; fresh-start accounting; Sarbanes-Oxley Act financial reporting compliance; leasing; bankruptcy and liquidation studies; useful life studies; inventory and reconciliation; joint venture funding; asset-based lending and financing; corporate tax; gift and estate tax; litigation and dispute resolution; reorganizations; divestitures; FIRPTA income tax withholding; and insurance.

Mr. Dotson has worked with domestic and international clients across various industries, including: metals and mining, oil and gas, pulp and paper, transportation, food processing, financial institutions, healthcare, consumer products, industrial products and chemicals, logistics and distribution, and utilities. He also has significant experience in specialty industries, including railroads, retail (apparel/stores/restaurants/gyms), and theme parks. He has experience valuing assets on six continents (North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia), having personally performed site inspections in 15 countries and 42 U.S. states. 

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Dotson started the Fixed Asset Valuation practice at Intrinsic LLC, a valuation and diligence provider focused on the lower-middle market private equity space. Prior to that, he spent the majority of his career working in the Fixed Asset Valuation practice with Kroll where he led its Chicago Machinery & Equipment practice for 12 years as part of Duff & Phelps and Standard & Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting teams. He began his career in financial services at Arthur Andersen and held positions at Stout, Deloitte, and StempleCrites. 

Mr. Dotson earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a Candidate Member of the American Society of Appraisers in the Machinery and Technical Specialties discipline.
