Can Clean-Energy Companies Mitigate the Impact of Tariffs?

A&M Managing Directors Chris Kulp and Julie McLaughlin recently sat down with SupplyChainBrain to discuss the potential impact of tariffs on clean-energy companies. McLaughlin highlighted that sectors such as solar, wind and storage are particularly vulnerable due to their heavy reliance on equipment imported from China. The tariffs have prompted these companies to seek alternative suppliers, create buyers’ clubs to increase purchasing power or enter into long-term contracts with U.S.-based manufacturers.

Kulp emphasized that many companies are unaware of the full extent of the tariffs' impact. However, their domestic suppliers might source materials from China, resulting in significant price increases. Understanding this exposure is crucial for mitigating the tariffs' impact on supply chains.

They also discussed the importance of realigning contracts and pricing to reflect current economic realities and maintaining competitiveness by balancing cost increases across the supply chain.
