Steve Spiegelhalter

Mr. Spiegelhalter has worked with clients in various industries, including technology, defense contracting, financial and professional services, insurance, aviation, natural resource exploitation, commodities trading, healthcare, life sciences and medical devices.
Mr. Spiegelhalter specializes in investigating alleged political corruption, money laundering, market manipulation, bank and wire fraud, false claims, asset misappropriation, financial statement fraud, and other alleged criminal activity. He counsels clients on compliance programs, including companies under external monitorship and self-reporting requirements and leads the forensic teams on three independent compliance monitorships reporting to DOJ and the CFTC.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Spiegelhalter led Ernst & Young’s Forensic & Integrity Services practice in Washington, D.C. Previously, he was a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, Fraud Section, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) Unit, an Assistant U.S Attorney, an in-house counsel and compliance officer at a Fortune 40 technology company and practiced at a multinational law firm.
As a federal prosecutor, Mr. Spiegelhalter trained domestic and foreign law enforcement and prosecutors. He led the prosecution of a managing director of a global investment bank for violating the bank’s internal controls to bribe a Chinese official. The case announced DOJ’s standard for winning declination despite executive conduct. Mr. Spiegelhalter was the first federal prosecutor to use a court-ordered wiretap during an FCPA investigation.
Mr. Spiegelhalter earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Brigham Young University and a J.D. from Georgetown University. He is a member of the American Bar Association, International Bar Association, National Association of Assistant U.S. Attorneys, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He is a board member of Gifts for the Homeless and frequently speaks and writes on investigations and compliance.
