Sebastian Nimwegen is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring in Düsseldorf. 

With 20 years of restructuring and advisory experience, he has advised on restructurings, performance improvement cases, and corporate reorganizations for private equity investors, lenders, shareholders, and corporates in various industries across Europe. Mr. Nimwegen specializes in stakeholder management, implementation of improvement and cost reduction programs, and structural reorganizations, including winddowns and M&A transactions. He often takes on interim C-suite positions to manage complex situations.

Mr. Nimwegen’s notable assignments include: acting as interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Co-Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO), and Managing Director (MD) of an international e-commerce business, where he led efforts to refinance debt, implement cost reduction initiatives, and roll out a new target operating model; acting as interim CFO and MD of a power tools manufacturing company, where he took responsibility for European finance and other administrative functions and led post-merger integration and transformation activities; and serving as CRO of a German subsidiary of a listed IT infrastructure equipment manufacturing company, where he led the restructuring program, reduced the workforce, negotiated with the works council, prepared the transfer of local production and the partial winddown of the German site, and managed M&A-related and cost reduction activities.

In addition, Mr. Nimwegen previously worked on an interim transformation project with the MD and shareholder representative of a real estate company, helping to sell and wind down the business, optimize the cost base, and maximize returns for its international shareholders, all while managing a complex M&A transaction. Mr. Nimwegen also prepared an orderly winddown plan for the portfolio company of an international private equity fund, planning different sale scenarios and assessing their financial and operational implications. Further, he prepared indicative timelines and key actions within a major liquidation.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Nimwegen served as an Assistant Director with Deloitte in London, Düsseldorf, and Toronto, where he was involved in several high-profile cross-border restructurings and corporate reorganizations of medium-sized entities.

Mr. Nimwegen earned a master’s degree in business economics and a PhD from the University of Münster. He is fluent in German and English.
