Olaf Beckmann is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in Düsseldorf. He has more than 17 years of experience in customs and excise duties as well as foreign trade law.

Mr. Beckmann’s notable assignments include major restructuring projects in the automotive industry and the chemical industry, as well as advising on customs and excise tax law and foreign trade law for numerous large and medium-sized companies. 

Mr. Beckmann advises clients in the following areas: customs procedures, valuations, tariffs, and formalities; determination and proof of preferential origin; connections between excise and customs handling of goods; foreign trade law, including central bank reports; excise duties and handling of excisable goods; and tax-exempt use and tax suspension procedures regarding the Excise Movement and Control System.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Beckmann spent 12 years with Big Four companies in Düsseldorf, including EY and KPMG, where he most recently served as a Director in the Trade and Customs service. Before that, Mr. Beckmann was a Senior Customs Officer at the main customs office in Hamburg. Mr. Beckmann was also the Head of the Customs Department of Airbus Defence and Space Electronics and Border Security when the division separated and became its own sensor technologies corporation, Hensoldt GmbH.

Mr. Beckmann earned a master’s degree in history and pedagogy from the Helmut Schmidt University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg as well as a master’s degree in finance (Diplom-Finanzwirt [FH] [Zoll]) from the Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences in Münster.
