Nico Bascunan is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement team in Austin. Mr. Bascunan brings more than 15 years of experience in merger, carve-out, performance improvement and integration planning transactions. 

Mr. Bascunan’s notable engagements include Day 1 and 100 planning, including synergy assessment and construction of a synergy tracker for a leading provider of digital and data driven learning solutions for high-demand skills and jobs acquiring a trusted online healthcare training and professional development provider in the U.S; and doing sell-side standalone and one-time cost assessment for a cloud-based SaaS based employee development and engagement platform in the education technology industry with ~$25 million in revenue and ~170 FTE.

Mr. Bascunan also handled buy-side standalone and one-time cost assessment and Day 1 and 100 integration planning for a carve-out business in the continuing professional and legal education industry from a publicly traded company operating primarily in the U.S., with significant operations support in India and annual sales of ~$50 million. The target business was dependent on the seller for shared services including sales, marketing, fulfillment/operations, IT, finance, and HR. 

Previously, Mr. Bascunan handled buy-side standalone and one-time cost assessment for a carve-out business in the labor market analytics industry from a publicly traded company in the technological research and consulting industry operating worldwide with 300+ employees and annual sales of ~$45 million. Previously, he handled buy-side synergy and one-time cost assessment for a software company operating in the legal and compliance tech-enabled space. The target company had an estimated revenue of ~$25 million and ~150 FTE; the U.S. headquartered client had significant operations support in India, revenue of ~$100 million and ~500 FTE. 

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Bascunan worked for over a decade in investment banking in Latin America, serving private equity clients with interests in Chile, Peru and Colombia. 

Mr. Bascunan earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile and an MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business.
