Kathie Haunton

Dr. Haunton has helped a wide variety of corporates, from large multinationals to small and mid-sized enterprises, secure their R&D tax benefits, some of which were very significant. Most recently, she was responsible for handling the complex HMRC enquiries and responding to newly legislated changes.
Dr. Haunton has worked with clients in various industries, including life science, engineering consultancies, technology and manufacturing. She regularly liaises with HMRC on issues identified within R&D tax relief claims.
Prior to joining A&M, Dr. Haunton spent 30 years with Deloitte, most recently in Manchester. One of the founding members of the Deloitte R&D team, she led Deloitte’s responses on R&D consultations and successfully concluded several entrenched HMRC enquiries, focusing on all aspects of the qualifying expenditure, R&D eligibility and determination of SME status. With her client service teams, she has helped clients claim many millions in tax benefit. Dr. Haunton trained within the audit practice, then moved into corporate tax. Previously, she worked in industry as a material scientist.
Dr. Haunton earned a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in material science from Brunel University. She is a chartered accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW), a Chartered Institute of Taxation adviser, and has been a member of the R&D Consultative Forum since its inception.
