John Haining is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Energy Industry Group in Dubai. He brings more than 25 years of experience across a range of strategic and operational consulting engagements. His primary areas of concentration are corporate strategy, business transformation and the design and implementation of sustainability and energy transition strategies, with an emphasis on people and technology.

Mr. Haining has worked with clients across a range of industries, including upstream and downstream oil and gas, oilfield services, mining and metallurgy, chemicals and agriculture and food.

Most recently at A&M, Mr. Haining has been involved in a review of the finance and accounting function for a global drilling company, where he assessed the effectiveness of the function and design of an improved future state. Previously, he was involved in the creation of an ESG strategy for an investment of a sovereign wealth fund, where he identified the overarching themes and likely impact over the coming decade.

Mr. Haining’s select notable engagements include the creation of industrial partnerships for research and innovation; development of enhanced guest experiences in destination management; improving the performance of the leadership team in a fast-growing tech company; and the commercialization of various early-stage technologies.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Haining served as Principal Consultant with The Carnrite Group, where he led ESG due diligence for a potential investment in a South African natural gas/helium play on behalf of a Canadian-listed firm; led development of materials in support of an oilfield services IPO in the Middle East; and assessed various decarbonization and carbon credit projects for their inclusion into an investment portfolio on behalf of Carnrite Group company NETZERO Solutions.

Mr. Haining earned a bachelor’s degree in law and a master’s degree in business from the University of Technology Sydney. Admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW (Australia), he is also an experienced non-executive director and mentor across a range of technology startups and incubators, including Companies Creating Change (C3).
