James Holley is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring and Insolvency in London. As a qualified Insolvency Practitioner, he specialises in creating value and restoring performance for businesses, particularly in distressed situations.

With more than 15 years of restructuring and insolvency experience, Mr. Holley works closely with management teams and wider stakeholder groups to deliver rapid solutions for complex financial and operational challenges. He has deep knowledge of a wide range of sectors and industries, including financial services, technology, retail, real estate, mining, and oil and gas.

Mr. Holley recently led the restructuring plan counter-factual analysis for the MGT Teesside group (the operators of the largest 100% biomass power station in the world) and for Royal IHC (a leading supplier of maritime technology for dredging, offshore energy, mining, and defence in connection with its Dutch Restructuring Plan). He also delivered the restructuring plan counter-analysis for the lenders of Virgin Active and a large Italian construction group.

Mr. Holley has a background in financial modelling and has built several Entity Priority Models in connection with restructuring negotiations (most notably for Punch Taverns as part of its $2 billion securitisation restructuring). During his secondments to Lone Star Funds and Cerberus, he was responsible for valuation modelling and assesses more than €9 billion of distressed loan portfolios. Mr. Holley is also skilled at project management and complex stakeholder negotiations. He was a project lead at De Beers for its global group simplification (overseeing the biggest M&A process in its 125-year history).

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Holley spent eight years with PwC restructuring and Insolvency in London. He worked with major clients/projects including Lehman Brothers, African Bank, Phones 4U, KSA Public Investment Fund, and Och-Ziff Capital Management. Notably, he spent two years leading the receivership of O.W. Bunker (the world’s largest fuel bunker group at the time of its collapse).

Mr. Holley earned a bachelor’s degree from Brunel University.
