John Hazel

With over nine years of healthcare experience, Mr. Hazel has assisted all types of healthcare organizations in tackling some of their most complex operational, regulatory, and financial challenges.
Mr. Hazel’s notable assignments include helping multiple large, nationally recognized healthcare organizations navigate adverse regulatory challenges, including serving as the quality review organization for a healthcare system under a corporate integrity agreement with the Office of Inspector General. He also served as the independent consulting expert for a separate healthcare system under a systems improvement agreement with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and supported a state-run psychiatric hospital on its multi-year journey to obtain CMS Certification.
Mr. Hazel also has experience developing detailed three-statement financial analyses and financial models that allow for the examination of multiple different scenarios to help determine an appropriate path to sustainability for an organization. These reviews have included analyzing historical financial statements to understand the impacts of one-time liquidity events and develop a true operational baseline, and developing cash-flow forecasts to help understand an organization’s go-forward operations. He has developed ability-to-pay analyses as part of ongoing litigation with the Department of Justice to determine potential paybacks and penalties as well. As part of operational reviews and performance improvement, Mr. Hazel performed and supported labor analysis and right-sizing of staffing for multiple service lines throughout a multi-hospital system.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Hazel spent almost two years with Prospect Medical Group in San Antonio, where he assisted with hospital operations, finance, performance improvement, and staffing.
Mr. Hazel earned a bachelor’s degree in allied health from Texas A&M University, and an MBA (concentration in healthcare administration) from Baylor University.
