Al Hutchens is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring & Turnaround in Toronto. With more than 25 years of turnaround and restructuring experience, he specializes in advising corporations and their stakeholders.
Mr. Hutchens has advised a broad range of clients, including corporate boards and management, lending syndicates and secured creditors. He brings extensive experience in the review and development of business plans and financial projections; assessment and development of recapitalization and restructuring alternatives, and the negotiation of credit, inter-lender, and purchase and sale agreements. Mr. Hutchens has assisted clients across a variety of industries, including retail, construction, transportation, mining, financial services and automotive.

Mr. Hutchens' notable recent assignments include serving as Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) Monitor of Comark Holdings (retail), CCAA Monitor of Cloverleaf Seafoods, CCAA Monitor of H.B. White Canada (construction), CCAA Monitor of Target Canada, CCAA Monitor of Arctic Glacier, Interim Chief Financial Officer of Extreme Fitness (before and during its CCAA proceedings), court-appointed receiver of Fibrex Insulations, financial advisor to the lending syndicate of a hotel and casino operator, financial advisor to and receiver on behalf of an OEM auto manufacturer and a heavy equipment manufacturer, and court-appointed receiver of Redcorp Ventures (mining).
 
Mr. Hutchens has worked on numerous cross-border cases, including as CCAA Monitor of InterTAN Canada (the Canadian subsidiary of Circuit City), Information Officer in the Canadian proceedings of Brooks Brothers, Pier 1 Imports, Payless Shoes, Jack Cooper Transport, Modular Space Holdings, Durabla Canada, TLC Vision and Chemtura Canada, and as CCAA Monitor and foreign representative in the Chapter 15 proceedings of the Yatsen Group (Sarku Japan restaurants) and the MAAX group.
 
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Hutchens was a Partner in the restructuring and insolvency group of a Big Four accounting firm in Canada.
 
Mr. Hutchens earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Ottawa He is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional, and a Licensed Insolvency Trustee and a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada (IIC), Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CIRP), and the Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
