Carla Hannemann

Ms. Hannemann is well known within the Canadian pension, public sector, sovereign wealth, investment board and fund community and is a trusted advisor to the “Maple 8” and other major Canadian pensions and investment boards. She has supported some of Canada’s largest real estate and infrastructure funds with investments and fund structuring.
Ms. Hannemann's clients know her as a pragmatic and innovative advisor and often hire her to solve issues others have not been able to solve. Her practice encompasses all aspects of income, land transfer, and other non-sales tax matters that arise in corporate and commercial transactions. She provides end-to-end tax support on M&A transactions (including due diligence, modelling, structuring, and reviewing, drafting, and negotiating legal agreements) as well as pre- and post-closing and ongoing advisory matters (including designing long-term and short-term executive compensation plans, addressing tax governance and tax related regulatory matters).
Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Hannemann led KPMG Law’s M&A Tax Law and Pensions and Tax Exempts practice in Canada.
Ms. Hannemann earned a bachelor of commerce, accounting, law & economics from the University of Alberta and an LLB from the University of Windsor, receiving two Board of Governor’s gold medalist awards and summa cum laude distinctions. She is called to both the Ontario and New York State bars and has been recognized by Chambers and Lexpert as Repeatedly Recommended.
